Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will likely have seen the recent hype around box frames. I wont waste everyone's time by throwing a bunch of made up ‘bro science’ at you. I’m not an aerodynamicist so I wont try to explain the physics.

What I can say, is that the first time I flew a box frame, I was immediately impressed by the flight feel. A box quad tracks differently from a conventional frame, exhibiting less lateral movement when cornering. When initially testing box designs, I found that my fastest laps were the same as with my traditional quads, but that the range of lap times I saw when pushing was much narrower. In other words, the box wasnt faster, but it was much easier to fly consistent laps when pushing the edge of my skill. Needless to say, I was hooked.

Unfortunately, the box frames available here in North America all had severe drawbacks that made them hard to live with. Faced with the lack of options, the only alternative was to design my own. Thus, the Phalanx was born.

Design goals:

  • Retain the tracking characteristics offered by a box
  • Simply put, the Phalanx flies likes its on rails.

  • Eliminate structural issues common to the box design
  • The combination of 3mm arms with 2mm braces balances strength accross the frame members to prevent the catastrophic failures we experienced with other designs.

  • Minimize weight without sacrificing durability
  • Structural analyses helped us determine where we needed more material for durability and where we could remove it to save weight. These optimizations allow for dry build weights well below 290g

  • Limit the number of different parts to make it easy to keep spares on hand
  • We eliminated a lot of the gimicks out there in other box frames with the intent of keeping the parts count simple. We all know quads break and having spares on hand is the best way to keep your fleet in the air. With only 5 discrete carbon parts, the Phalanx has the lowest unique part count of any box on the market, and is even lower than many traditional frames.

  • Wrap the electronics in a sexy pod
  • The TPU canopy supports both micro and nano sized cameras (see recommended component list for specifics) and provides a wide range of adjustability (40-80*) to accommodate a full range of uptilt preferences. Video antenna mounting is also simplified with a socket that holds and protects the video antenna. We also include a TPU accessory that mounts a flipstick, holds antenna tubes and provides strain relief for the battery pigtail.

    Included Components:

    • 2mm Top and Bottom Plates
    • 2mm Braces (x4)
    • 2mm Motor Mounts (x8)
    • 3mm Arms (x4)
    • TPU Canopy
    • TPU Flipstick and Antenna Mount
    • Aluminum Hardware (frame and motor screws)
    • Nylon Flipstick

    Recommended Components:

    • 20x20 ESC and FC
    • ‘Nano’ size VTX
    • Micro or Nano cam with M8 or smaller diameter lense(cam mounting is extremely tight. We recommend Runcam Racer 2, Nano Racer 2, or Nano 2)
    • Supports all popular 5” and 5.1” props
    • Micro RX (XM+, R-XSR, CRSF Nano)
    • Axii or Axii 2 Video Antenna
